The Basics on How the British Eat during Breakfast

The traditional English meal taken at the start of the day consists of five parts. The purpose of having such a hearty fare is to enable one to be suitably ready to carry out the physical exertions required during the day. Do educate yourself on this culinary offering by taking a look at the food included in the courses served during the morning repast favoured by many throughout the British Isles.

  1. Starter
  2. This period of the feast begins with one or two of the following:

    1. Fresh Juice
    2. This beverage is made by squeezing a fruit or vegetable without applying heat or adding synthetic ingredients. In some instances, various types of crops may be combined to achieve a unique taste.

    3. Prune
    4. This is one of the varieties of plum and is known for its distinct oblong shape and purple colour. For breakfast, it is usually served stewed.

    5. Grapefruit
    6. This citrus, which is a hybrid of the pomelo and the sweet orange, is usually sliced in sections and is eaten with a dusting of sugar.

    7. Tea or coffee

The classic English practice with regards to the former type of drink involves the addition of milk. Both of these brews can be contained in separate large pots, and placed on the dining table.

  3. Second Course
  4. In this phase, either cereal or porridge is consumed. The latter, which consists of cooked oatflakes, a little water and a dash of salt, can be accompanied with some butter and brown sugar.

  5. Main
  6. This part is also called a “fry up” because of how the food items are cooked. At this stage, eggs, whether fried, poached or scrambled, are eaten together with browned bacon. Grilled sausages, tomatoes and mushrooms, as well as corned beef hash and baked beans, also complement this point of the meal.

  7. Fourth
  8. Here, either meat or fish is taken in. While many favour the kipper, highly-seasoned kidneys are also preferred by a number of people. Kedgeree, which is a dish consisting of curried rice and flaked or smoked haddock, is also a good culinary option near the end of the whole feast.

  9. Fifth
  10. This is the part where the breakfast is concluded by enjoying toast with marmalade or jam.

There are still other ingredients items that can be incorporated in this kind of meal. If you wish to enjoy this kind of breakfast during your travels to Newquay or when on a much-needed vacation around Cornwall, you can do so when you stay at the Avalon Guest House.
